Who is the course for?

A Course for trainees who wish to improve their ability to identify tree species. The course includes identification of tree species from buds, twigs, bark and foliage samples plus identification at the mature stage of growth, irrespective of season. This is suitable for local authority highway inspectors,  forestry, woodland or arboricultural employees, estate or park rangers, wardens and farmers.

Objectives:

To enable course members to:

  • Understand the terminology used to describe the identifying features of trees from leaves, buds, bark, and crown structure and shape.
  • Identify from foliage samples a minimum of 10 trees appropriate to the location.*
  • Identify from buds and twigs a minimum of 5 broad leaved trees appropriate to the location. *
  • Identify at a mature stage of growth a minimum of 10 trees appropriate to the location.

Duration: 1 day. Maximum of 14 trainees per course. Certification gained:  Lantra Certificate of Attendance
