Practical Training covers:

  • Basic construction, names of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
  • Use of the operator’s handbook, other information sources, Approved Codes of Practice and legislative documents
  • Operator documentation, certificates, method statements, lift plans, duties charts etc
  • Interpreting information displayed on the machine
  • Pre-use, start, running checks and close-down procedure, including emergency lowering procedures
  • Controlling the MEWP from all available operating positions, including remote devices if applicable
  • Manoeuvring the MEWP progressing to manoeuvring in confined areas, to include tight turns in forward and reverse and travelling in the raised position (self propelled machines only)
  • How to position the MEWP up to the maximum working height available
  • How to stay within safe working parameters
  • Placing the MEWP in an out-of-service condition
  • Loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
